EMMANUEL VAN DER AUWERA

Directed by Emmanuel Van der Auwera between 2014 and 2017, the films A Certain Amount of Clarity, Central Alberta and Missing Eyes form a triptych that focuses on the experience of witnessing the suffering of someone through a screen.

The culture of snuff movies on the Internet (Central Alberta), an unhealthy adolescent challenge (A Certain Amount of Clarity) and the scenario of an execution choreographed by the terrorist group ISIS (Missing Eyes): the subjects that the belgian artist evoques lift the veil on some of the darkest taboos of an era obsessed by images.

What happens to the viewer when manufactured images replace reality?
