Eric Chenal - White Inside #1

Artist(s)
Eric Chenal

white inside is a photographic project by Eric Chenal and shows various spaces dedicated to contemporary art in the time in-between two exhibitions. These areas for retreat and contemplation are shown outside of their functional dimension, exposing their actual architecture, almost denuded. The light is invigorating, and affirms its presence, highlighting a form of ritualisation, especially in the organisation of surfaces. This series clearly leans towards artistic photography rather than images of architecture, and it examines the in-between, transition, suspension, gaps, tracks and absence. It shows the "framework" of contemporary art and reveals these areas which "serve" artistic creation. These emptied spaces acquire a new depth, existing in themselves, for themselves. Furthermore, this project takes up themes which are dear to the artist, such as intermediation, transfiguration and plays of light. Beginning in the Greater Region (Casino Luxembourg, Mudam, Centre Pompidou-Metz, Frac Lorraine, Delme Synagogue, Centre Dominique Lang), the aim is to then spread to other art galleries in Europe. In the framework of the European Month of Photography, Casino Luxembourg is organising, over two days (4 and 5 May 2013), the first exhibition of a series of photographies especially put together for the art centre. Eric Chenal is also using the event to invite other artists (Serge Ecker, Skill Lab, Sun Glitters and Fred Thouillot) to interact with his visuals. A catalogue is currently under preparation.
