…entre femmes

artist(s): Isabelle Bribosia, Pascale Wiedemann, Pascale Willi
curator(s): Laure Faber, Bettina Heldenstein

The exhibition is a broad based enquiry, an experiment, bringing together three women's artistic approaches in the ground floor gallery space of the Casino Luxembourg. Isabelle Bribosia, Pascale Wiedemann and Pascale Willi have been invited to undertake specific projects for this show, in the hope that this exhibition concept will lead to a shared project, the result of work and/or a collective reflection without any pre-imposed theme. Each artist is bringing her personal approach, her own iconography and her own materials, while remaining, at all times and from the very start, especially "aware" of the "other" and her environment. They have chosen to "settle" into the space at their disposal, as one moves into a house, each one fixing up an area according to her own wishes, and to her taste, with her memories, her intimacy, all the while remaining aware of the visual language of the other two, as well as of the visitors' perception.

For instance, on the opening day, Isabelle Bribosia, who loves to encounter others, and to give these meetings a playful content, will create a friendly space, a kind of dining room, minutely ordained and reserved for women, invited to a "waterzooi" dinner, a typically Belgian dish prepared by the artist herself. This dinner shared by women only, served by a man, and transmitted on monitors placed outside the room, will play on the idea of exchanging glances, the relationship between men-observers and women-participants.

As for Pascale Wiedemann, she will provide the space with "a new skin", by plunging the hall of the Casino Luxembourg into a coloured ambience, in which she will show empty windows, whose partitions, in sheets of plastic, embroidered on the surface with domestic designs, recall images of the adjoining rooms and refer to memories. These souvenirs are partly images and situations she shared with Pascale Willi, her childhood friend. As for Pascale Willi, she will intermingle these childhood memories with current experiences, combining toys and objects, noises and smells of daily life, recreating an atmosphere which will envelop every one crossing this space.

The exhibition ...entre femmes, grew out of a common idea: the taking over, the installing of a space by three women. The concept of women's creative work will continue through a programme including a dance festival, a selection of films by the director Bady Minck, and a women's workshop.
