At all times storytelling has been a vital activity for men and women alike. Stories - whether real accounts or fiction, whether dramatic narrations or playlets - set our relation to the world we live in, and form a most special means of expression and communication.

All along, stories have often found their roots in art. From time immemorial, a plethora of stories and legends have been associated - purposefully or not - with works of art and artists. The exhibition Faiseurs d'histoires [Storymakers] includes the works of some twenty artists who, more or less explicitly, use different types of narration(s) in drawings, photographies, videos, installations, sound tracks...

Some works imply a visual, almost immediate, recognition of narration by the means of a particular object or a specific presentation that includes all the necessary elements and ingredients to make a story (Panamarenko, Geschwind, Lane). Other works are less obvious, and request complementary information (Hendricks, Prum), or call for a greater attention and a more thorough lecture/listening (Corillon, Dupuy, Elémento). In some cases the narrations or accounts take on more classical forms, and are used in combination with new technologies. They can be novelistic or diary-like (Hatoum, Jørgensen, Toderi), seek their inspiration in photo romances (Pacquée, Mogarra), comic strips (Solakov, Tixier), or films (Graham). Whatever their form, many are tinged with autobiographical elements (Aballéa, Benning, Perjovschi), accounts of real situations (Banz), historical references (Wolman), or are related to current topics (Seric) and daily practices of communication (Claude).

The exhibition is a journey that invites the visitor to watch, read and listen to stories rendered alive through the different devices that present them, or to invent his/her own stories. The storymakers are Martine Aballéa, Stefan Banz, Sadie Benning, Magali Claude, Patrick Corillon, Jean Dupuy, Nathalie Elémento, Peter Geschwind, Rodney Graham, Mona Hatoum, Jochem Hendricks, Elsebeth Jørgensen, Abigail Lane, Joachim Mogarra, Ria Pacquée, Panamarenko, Dan Perjovschi, Antoine Prum, Nebojsa "Soba" Seric, Nedko Solakov, Laure Tixier, and Joseph Wolman.
