Hills Snyder – Gloville

artist(s): Hills Snyder

Gloville is a search for pop forms. Cézanne saw in the physical world cones and spheres; Hills Snyder sees a system of signs and emblems which underlie reality as a kind of mystical algebra. Snyder takes shapes and images from everyday objects, which he abstracts while maintaining enough of their figurative characteristics to awaken the memory of the original. The object as it appears in one's mind is at the origin of Snyder's work. The viewer could be said to supply a meaning to the proposed equation, complementing it with his/her own vision of the world.
In twenty two-dimensional sculptures made of cut-out Plexiglas panels, screwed onto a plywood base and fixed onto to the wall, and in a series of drawings Hills Snyder offers a compelling synthesis of the visual and physical experience of his close environment.
