Pearls of the North
artist(s): Simone Decker, Vera Kox
curator(s): Kevin Muhlen
During the length of time of an exhibition, the Palais d'Iéna, an architectural jewel of reinforced concrete built by Auguste Perret, was invested in by artists coming from Benelux. Far from striving to offer an exhaustive view of artistic production from these countries, it was more a question of presenting proposals from the selected partners.
The Casino thus suggested two artists with very different practices and paths: on the one hand, Simone Decker, an established artist at an international level, and on the other hand, Vera Kox, a young, fresh, plastic arts graduate. Within the building, Vera Kox exhibited recent sculptures, built from reclaimed objects and materials, and agglomerated with a view to creating new forms and breathing a second life into these cast-offs. The monumental work of art, Le grand soufflé, Fine sélection, by Simone Decker, rose up on the courtyard of the Conseil économique, social et environnemental, thus immediately calling out to exhibition visitors as well as to the regulars of the plenary sessions routinely held at the Palais d'Iéna.
