The Infolab

Since its inception in 1996, the Casino Luxembourg has endeavoured to constitute a pool of documentation on the artists who have (been) shown within its rooms, as well as to provide general information on all subjects pertaining to contemporary art. During Manifesta 2 – European Biennial of Contemporary Art in 1998, the documentation collected up to that point provided the core of the Infolab, a newly created structure destined to offer a maximum of information and documents to the public. Built to the plans of architect Philippe Paul Schmit, the Manifesta 2 incarnation of the Infolab benefited greatly from folders, documents and catalogues taken on loan from the various Soros centres in Eastern European countries.

Once this documentation was sent back to its owners, the Casino Luxembourg decided to host a permanent version of the Infolab in one of the rooms. The conversion, for which the same architect was commissioned, today permits visitors to consult on appointment catalogues, monographs, contemporary art magazines and - upon request - videos, CD-ROMs and artists' books on site.

In parallel, archives containing artists' biographies, cartons, postcards, brochures, artists' books and other materials were created and now amount to the number of more than 15.000 artists' files. This documentation is only available upon request.

The content of the Infolab (exhibtion catalogues, monographs, artist's books) may be seen online:
