Questo Anonimato É Sovversivo ("This Anonimity is Subversive") is a colossal project by Italian artist Ruben Montini, which has been developed since 2016. Questo Anonimato E’ Sovversivo consists of a vast hand embroidery piece that will be the result of the cooperation between people living across the EU.Everybody is welcome to embroider whatever they feel like. The project gives total freedom to the participants / audience. Montini does not ask nor commission any pattern. Instead, he is asking for the last thread to remain loose, so that people in the following stops in different countries may continue, or modify, or interpret in their own personal way what has been started by someone else.

By doing so, the work strives to give light to an idea of cooperation, collaboration, "distant-working together" in order to achieve one specific goal. The final outcome of this humongous embroidery work will, in fact, tell the story of several people that have met – in a metaphorical sense – on the surface of this cotton sheet, and have experienced the same feeling of sharing and union through the realisation of the work. The embroidery activity is “only” an excuse to create something bigger, apparently intangible, which is the sense of community, of belonging to a wider, borderless union.
