Thresholding

Artist(s)
Adriana Disman

Performance in the context of the exhibition Drinkers of quintessences.

Thresholding (2016/2019) by Adriana Disman (born 1989 in Toronto, Canada) plays on the apprehension of emptiness and its limits: standing on a stool, the artist defies the balance of her own body with the rim from the headquarters. This performance of several hours metaphorically points the intuitive aspect of the creative process and the endangerment to which each artist is exposed, confronted with the emptiness of the blank page.

"I stand on an edge, reaching for the moment between falling and not falling. Leaning in, slowly, until I push up against the limits of control and suddenly catch myself again and again. The desire to survive lives deep in the body. Small, delicate, and dangerous. Exhaustion alters the movement. Unrest. Precarity. Stillness doesn't exist." - Adriana Disman
