Bodyfiction(s) 3 is a programme of video screenings that expands on the theme of this year’s European Month of Photography (EMOP). It presents the work of three artists with different sensibilities whose practice focuses on the mutating body in a post-human society. Their videos use different formal vocabularies to reflect the overcoming of realities – whether augmented, hybridised or ritualised.
Da Vinci (2012, 25') by filmmaker and artist Yuri Ancarani (born 1972 in Ravenna, Italy) refers to the mechanical knight designed by Leonardo da Vinci around 1495, which is widely considered to be one of the first robots. In his video, takes viewers on a journey inside the human body, where the blood is replaced by blue hues evoking the mythical Grotta Azzura, or Blue Grotto, in Capri.
In the 3D self-portrait titled La liberté en écorchée (Liberty Flayed, 2013, 57'46''), inspired by Renaissance anatomical studies, ORLAN (born 1947 in Saint-Étienne, France) literally makes herself completely open – more than in any of her surgical interventions to date.
Spectrographies (2015, 59') by SMITH (born 1985 in Paris, France) immerses viewers into a dark, dreamlike atmosphere populated by ghosts and spectres that seem to conjure up memories and fill the void of the Other.
16-18.5.2019: Book fair
