Grazia Toderi – Centro

Artist(s)
Grazia Toderi

Grazia Toderi's world is a world of images. They are images that reflect the artist's own relation to images - be they cultural, mental or drawn from television - and are intimately linked to her condition as a woman, an artist, a grown-up child or a grown-up still in childhood, but also as a common human involved in the making of our world and attempting to shape her being there.

The extraordinary power of suggestion and seduction of her images not only lies in the complexity of their content, which can be intuitively construed. It rather springs from their subtle inner mechanism, which switches from a regular flow like a respiration to a lasting immobility, from still frames to almost imperceptible movements, and appear as our own inner images.Centro is Grazia Toderi's first major individual show, in which many of her most recent works are presented, among which diptych and triptych videos, and a series of photographs and drawings. Grazia Toderi's participation in the 5th Istanbul Biennial in 1997, and her recent exhibitions at the FRAC Bourgogne (Dijon) and the Gallery Gio Marconi in Milan, confirm the growing interest in her very personal approach to images, which the Casino Luxembourg already had the opportunity to present within the framework of its opening exhibition Arrêt sur images in March 1996.
