Within the framework of the exhibition Perspectives, Casino Luxembourg presents from 15 May to 29 June 1997 the (first) works acquired by the national cultural fund in the perspective of the construction of the future Museum of Modern Art Grand-Duc Jean. The new museum - conceived by the famous architect I. M. Pei and to be built on the exceptional site of the Trois Glands at Kirchberg - will mark the link between past and present. It will hold permanent collections as well as temporary exhibitions and will also focus on cultural and educational activities. Besides the masterpieces of modern art from the collection of the National Museum of History and Art, the new museum will also host contemporary works of art. The national cultural fund does not so much intend to give a complete overview of the contemporary artistic creation as to select works for their individual quality and to present them in confrontation with works already exhibited.
