Ecoacoustic research and its expression through ecological sonic visual art

Species extinction in natural spaces and ecoacoustic composition strategies

Public talk by artist-researcher Sam Erpelding, PhD candidate at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz in the framework of the research unit Woven in Vegetal Fabric: On Plant Becomings

Venue: Casino Display, 1, rue de la Loge, L-1945 Luxembourg

This public talk is about ecological artistic research and discusses ecoacoustic research and composition strategies. The aim of this talk is to introduce the fields of soundscape ecology and ecoacoustics, as well as ecological multimedia art with the help of this PhD project. Some of the main topics that will be discussed are: entering into the fields of data sonification, electroacoustic and acousmatic music, and sonic-visual art; recognising the sounds of the wild, their fluctuations and subtle nuances; understanding fragments of extinction in our modern noisy world. The power of sensitisation work, tranquility and deep listening is a need for the heritage of our fragile sonic environment.
